Pet Acupuncture at Our Animal Hospital
At Charlotte Street Animal Hospital in Asheville, NC, we have many services that help support the health of your animal, including emergency vet services, dentistry and pet physical rehabilitation. In addition to these important services, we practice holistic animal care at our clinic. We offer both acupuncture and pet chiropractic pet therapy. Dr. Erin V Husted, one of our talented veterinarians, is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist trained in traditional Chinese veterinary medicine diagnostics, food therapy and herbology.
Pet Acupuncture 101: Learn more about acupuncture for your pets
A veterinarian can use acupuncture in combination with traditional medical techniques to help improve your animal’s health and happiness. This holistic treatment has been practiced for more than 3000 years. During a session, small needles are placed in specific locations on the body to stimulate physiological reactions and treat certain conditions or illnesses. Studies have shown that an acupuncturist can help in circumstances where pain medications and anti-inflammatory treatment have been unsuccessful. It has been shown to be beneficial in animals suffering from cardiovascular issues, respiratory disorders, skin conditions, stomach or bowel issues, autoimmune disease, reproductive problems, musculoskeletal conditions and neurological impairments.
Sometimes positive responses are observed after one treatment, however, it can take a few sessions to find out for sure if our acupuncturist can help your pet. The number of sessions that will be necessary at our animal emergency clinic depends on the characteristics of your pet and the condition that is being treated. The Asheville veterinarians at our emergency vet clinic welcome the opportunity to evaluate your pet and determine if acupuncture could be a helpful treatment.
Enhancing Pet Wellness with Chiropractic Treatment
Why does my dog or cat need chiropractic care?
Another veterinarian at our Asheville animal hospital, Dr. John Faherty, is a certified animal chiropractor and has been performing spinal manipulations on animals since 1998. Chiropractic is a well-established, drug-free type of holistic care that has been practiced for over a century. Any of the 100+ joints in the spines of dogs and cats can stop functioning properly, resulting in pain when your pet tries to move naturally. An animal chiropractor can adjust the spine and other joints in your pet’s body using specific, controlled manipulation. Over several sessions, these techniques can help restore your animal’s agility and happiness.
When your pet comes to visit our Asheville veterinarian, he or she will first receive a special exam of the spine and joints. The veterinarian will then evaluate the conditions that need to be treated and come up with a plan of action. Usually, your pet will come in for an adjustment weekly for several weeks. Once progress is made, appointments will become less frequent. It can take anywhere from 4 to 10 treatments before desired results are attained. Animals usually respond very well to treatments, but may have some temporary soreness following a manipulation. At Charlotte Street Animal Hospital, our veterinarians can assess your pet and help you decide whether chiropractic treatment or any of our other pet physical rehabilitation and dentistry services may be beneficial.
